Setting Goals, Motivation and More: Q&A with Michael Otero
1.) What is your favorite exercise that you use most frequently to train your clients, and why?
My favorite workout to run with my clients is boxing. I love running clients through focus and heavy bag drills. These drills work on your core, cardio, biceps, shoulders, lats, rear delts, traps, and rhomboids. Along with your reaction time and speed. Great way to shred fat and get cut while losing a few pounds.
2.) How do you stay motivated throughout the year to stick to your fitness routine?
My motivation is simple. I want to be the best. As a wrestler I train 24/7 to be the fastest, strongest, and best conditioned athlete on the planet. If I ever take a set off, thats a set that my opponent can hit to get better and beat me. Thats unacceptable. I lead by example so my clients follow suit.
3.) What tip would you give to clients that are struggling to stay on track?
To keep clients on track I remind them that their body is their bank account. Every workout is a little deposit towards that mansion your saving for. The only way you won’t get it is if you don’t save up right? The same with your body so keep working and stay positive. Everyone is always saying what they can’t do, instead, focus on what you can do and become the best at it. With that mindset it’s impossible to fail unless you willfully don’t put in the work.
4.) What is your favorite inspirational quote or mantra?
Favorite thing to scream at my clients is simple “Out Work Them All!”
5.) What is your advice for those who want to work out regularly, but don’t really know where to start? What should be the first step for a healthy lifestyle?
If you want to start a routine in the gym but dont know where to begin, grab a trainer! The first step after you get your trainer is setting feasable goals to better your body and lifestyle. Whether you want to add size, cut bodyfat, or improve your cardio….it starts with a tangible goal.Be specific with your goals and be sure to give yourself a deadline to reach your goal to hold yourself accountable. With a great trainer and set goals you will find success.
